A MINTAH TUMBÁO Experience
DECOLONIZE
THE PELVIS
Remember your rhythm. Reclaim your relationship with your body.
BIPOC-centered · All genders welcome · No dance experience required
The body remembered. Now we listen.
An invitation to come home to yourself.
DECOLONIZE THE PELVIS is an Afro-diasporic movement and embodied wellness experience created by Aminah “MINTAH TUMBÁO” Jackson. Through breath, reflection, self-energy practices, guided movement, and community, we make room to listen to what the body has been holding—and to remember the rhythm, pleasure, presence, and power already yours.
This is not a dance class built around performance. It is an invitation to arrive in your body with curiosity, care, and choice.
See the movement
Make space for what feels true.
This practice creates room for breath, rhythm, reflection, and a fuller relationship with your body—at your own pace.
Inside the experience
Movement, memory, and community in motion.
Explore moments from DECOLONIZE THE PELVIS gatherings—where reflection becomes rhythm and every body is invited to arrive as they are.
What to expect
A two-hour experience of breath, reflection, rhythm, and return.
Every gathering is shaped by the people in the room, but the experience commonly moves through four intentional stages.
Arrive
Grounding breathwork, guided meditation, and space to arrive in the present moment.
Remember
Reflective journaling, affirmations, and gentle inquiry into the stories, patterns, and desires asking for your attention.
Move
Accessible Afro-fusion movement and rhythm exploration. You choose your level of participation throughout.
Integrate
Self-energy practices, rest, reflection, and simple practices to take into your everyday life.
This experience is for you if...
You do not need to know how to dance. You only need to be willing to be present.
DECOLONIZE THE PELVIS may be for you if you are ready to step out of your head and reconnect with your body in a more intentional way. It is for those curious about movement, lineage, and embodiment as tools for reflection and personal liberation.
- New to dance, returning to movement, or a lifelong mover.
- Looking for a BIPOC-centered space that welcomes people of all genders.
- Interested in culturally grounded wellness, community, and personal reflection.
- Ready to trade perfection for presence.
- Open to a gentle, expressive, and choice-centered experience.
Why movement matters here
The invitation is not to “fix” your body. It is to meet it.
Rhythm, breath, journaling, and gentle movement can create a meaningful pause from the pace of daily life. They can support body awareness and offer another way to process experience beyond conversation alone.
Hip movement is not a performance. It is an invitation to explore mobility, expression, confidence, pleasure, and personal agency at your own pace. There is no right way to have this experience.
What to bring
Come prepared to move, reflect, and reconnect.
- Water
- A journal and pen
- Comfortable clothing that lets you move
- An open heart
- Optional: a wrap, lappa, or sarong to accentuate movement around the hips
