ABOUT AMINAH
Aminah Jackson, a proud African American and Haitian Mexican American, was born in Los Angeles and raised in both Los Angeles and Tucson, AZ. With a B.A. in African Studies and a Minor in Spanish from Howard University, her rich cultural background and academic expertise set the stage for a dynamic career. Aminah’s dance journey spans traditional West African dance, Mexican Folklórico, tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, Flamenco, Hip-Hop, and the Horton, Dunham, and Graham techniques, giving her an extraordinary range as a performer and educator.
Her formal training at the renowned Debbie Allen Dance Academy, The Ailey School Summer Program, and Howard University provided her with a solid foundation in dance. Aminah had the honor of being a two-time dance intern and student of Ronald K. Brown’s EVIDENCE Dance Company in Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, she has shared her expertise as a Dance Teaching Artist, instructing Latin Social Dance at prestigious universities like LMU, USC, and UCLA.
In the last decade, Aminah has focused her efforts on Afro-Latin social dance and traditional forms, including Salsa, Yoruba/Orisha, and Cuban Casino. She danced with the Afro-Cuban performance ensemble Ocandeniye Dance Company and was an assistant and ongoing mentee to Jhesus Aponte, an Afro-Puerto Rican two-time World Salsa Dance Champion. Her love for dance extends to being a lifelong student of traditional West African forms such as Sabar, Doudoumba, Lamban, and Balanta, as well as Haitian Yanvalou, Merengue, Bachata, Kompa, and the Dunham Technique.
Aminah has facilitated 10 retreat workshops for other women’s retreats in Puerto Rico and Dominica, including Selena Watkins’ SOCANOMICS Wellness Retreat and Niambi Sala’s annual 'Sacred Slumber Party' from the music group OSHUN. Her current mission is to decolonize the minds, bodies, and spirits of Black and Brown women through somatic healing, mindful movement, energy work, EFT tapping, mirror work, and breath work.
As the founder and creator of her own OSUN-OLOGY retreats—including the 'Afro-Sensuality Healing Retreat, Puerto Rico' and the 'Decolonize The Pelvis Retreat, Jamaica'—Aminah offers an expansive range of healing experiences. Her services include one-on-one personal coaching, small group coaching programs, online courses, in-person workshops across the United States, and retreats in breathtaking locations around the world.
